Shouting on top of their voices are Eldonets Basketball club players after they qualified to play at the semi final of Kenya Basketball Division One League played at Uasin Gishu High School Court.
Eldonets won with a slim margin against Africa Nazarene University (ANU) 68-66 in final and determining match, which was a sweet revenge for the Eldoret based team who lost to ANU last weekend.
It was a do or die game for bother teams as any winner would have proceeded to the next stage. Coming to Eldoret, ANU was a better side when they only needed a single win to progress.
Enjoying home fans, Eldonets managed to record two wins against the students: on Saturday, they managed to win with 80-51 but on Sunday, they worked hard to win in 68-66 to book for a semi final match against Zetech University.
In opening half, Eldonets lost with two baskets of 18-16 and ANU lost the second quarter with similar margin in a 17-15 score.
After they changed the field, ANU won with 25 against Eldonets 20 but realizing they will be missing out on semi final play, hosts defenders maintained their guard and won with a big margin of 15-08 for the last whistle.
Players and fans did not hide their joy after qualifying through sweat and revenge against the team that had beaten them last weekend.
Maurice Ouma was one delighted player who guided his team for such much needed win.
“Definitely, I must celebrate with all manner of styles. Imagine losing at home would have been embarrassment of the year. We are playing at home and all fans were on our side, we always train from here and the loss…would have been bad,” said Ouma.
