Eldonets to host Umoja in Division One semis

Eldnets, a basketball team playing at the Kenya Basketball Division One from Eldoret is targeting to play at the final level when they face Umoja basketball team this weekend in Eldoret.

As the only team qualified to play at the semi final match outside Nairobi, Eldonets will face Umoja team from Nairobi this weekend at Uasin Gishu High school court in the two day event-Saturday and Sunday. The teams are supposed to play five matches against each other to qualify for final play where all finalists will automatically qualify to play at next year’s Kenya Basketball Federation premier league.

The journey for Eldoret based team was not easy as they managed to beat Africa Nazarene University (ANU) two weeks ago at the same venue in a sweet revenge.

Eldonets won with two matches against ANU 68-66 and 80-51 in the two matches that determined who proceeds to the next level during the play-off matches. And it was a sweet revenge for the Eldoret based team who lost to ANU in the previous weekend.

In semi final matches, the teams are supposed to play five matches with two to be played in Eldoret before heading to Nyayo national stadium for the last three matches to pick a team that will play at the final level. In another semi final match, Kenyatta University will face Zetech University in Nairobi this weekend too.

Eldonets captain Maurice Ouma is confident that the team will go past semi final all the way to the finals.

“We have done our part. We have prepared very well for Umoja who have been dominating many games in Nairobi. We want to play at the premier league and not Division One as we have been doing,” said Ouma who also stands in as a coach for his side.

“We were so happy to qualify for semi final and we have to prove to our fans and the locals that we are capable despite the fact that we don’t have sponsors and we sponsor ourselves as players,” added Ouma.
