Fresh from winning Kenya Amateur Matchplay Championships at par 72 Vet Lab over the weekend, Joseph Gathumbi will be leading top amateur golfers at the 9th meeting of Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) set for Limuru Open champions on Limuru Golf course over the weekend.

But he will face off with KAGC leader John Karichu and second placed Edwin Mudanyi of Vet Lab.

Karichu, after winning Coronation Trophy title in Nakuru has remained on top of the championships table ahead Mudanyi, who finished second behind Thika Sports Club’s Gathumbi at Matchplay last weekend on home course.

It will be a back to back meeting ahead of Limuru leg without a rest, the golfers will be battling out for points.

Gathumbi’s win propelled him to 152 points ahead of the 54 hole strokeplay that kicks off on Saturday to Sunday.

Taking home ground advantage will be Karichu who, apart from leading the table with 256 points, he will take chances as he expects to shine at home and he is in the national team ahead of Victoria Cup in Entebbe, Uganda together with Mudanyi, Kenneth Bollo, Captain Alfred Nandwa among others.

The hosting club Limuru boasts of the highest number of single figure handicap golfers in the country where besides Karichu, others hunting for points will include John Kariuki, Dennis Maara, Paul Muchangi and Francis Kimani.

Having lost in the final of the matchplay championship at his home course, Vet Lab’s Edwin Mudanyi is a man on a mission at Limuru.

He was leading by a shot until he fired out of bounds at the last home to drop to fourth place as home player Paul Muchangi clinched the title.
