Kenyan faith lies in Faith Kipyegon in women’s 1,500m final

Olympic 1,500m champion Faith Kipyegon Chpng’etich will be the only Kenyan to fly Kenyan flag in 1,500m when she qualified to compete at the final race in the ongoing IAAF World championships in London,Great Britain.

The Commonwealth champion Chepng’etich ran 4:03.54 to emerge the winner in semi final One that had 800m Olympic champion Caster Semenya, reigning race champion Genzebe Dibaba among others.

Chepng’etich faced a stiff competition from home girl Laura Muir who finished second timing 4:03.64 followed by South African Semenya in 4:03.80 as she runs in 1,500m for the first time in championships.

But it was disappointing for former World Youth 800m silver medalist Winny Chebet who failed to qualify in the second semi final race.

The 2006 World junior silver Medalist finished 7th overall clocking 4:06.26 in the race won by Netherlands’ international Sifan Hassan.
