Malkia Strikers head coach Japheth Munala played an experienced side against Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the ongoing Africa Women’s Volleyball Africa Nations Championships in Yaounde, Cameroon.
The experienced shone over DRC 3-0 (25-17, 25-12 and 25-12) in an ascending manner for Kenyan side to qualify to play into semi final.
It was 100% win for the defending champions at the Palais Des Sports Indoor Arena ahead of FIVB Women’s World Championships qualifier next year in Japan.
As Kenya faces Tunisia in the final pool B match on Wednesday, they beat Nigeria 3-0 (25-16, 25-8, 25-10) and Senegal 3-0 (25-21, 28-26, 25-15) in their first two matches, and Monday’s result made them the only team yet to drop a single set in the competition which has brought together nine countries.
Munala started with a well experienced side that included setter Janet Wanja, Violet Makuto, Edith Wisa, Triza Atuka, Noel Murambi, skipper Mercy Moim and libero Agripina Kungu.
The Kenyan team dominated with their spike service as the opponents suffered from bad reception and backline defence. The impressive Wisa finished with 13 points followed by Trizah Atuka with 12, as Margot Mutshima contributed eight points for the losers.
