Eldoret Scrabble championships: Nderitu Gitonga enjoys overnight lead

East, Central and Southern Africa  (ECASA) Scablle Champion Gitonga Nderitu was in imperious form to enjoy day one of the leg of Eldoret Scrabble Open championships, the 3rd leg of Kenya NationalScrabble champions.

The two day event that concludes on Sunday is part of the qualifiers to the 2018 Africa Scrabble Championships to be stage in Uganda.

Kirinyaga county player dropped only one point to Charles Kimani of Kinoo club – Kiambu County to finish on 10 +1461

Homabay’s Onani Magwanga was a point back on 9 +798 with top seed Allan Oyende 3rd on 8 +589

In the open division, Metric Mukhalasie of KCB led overnight (10 +1335) ahead of University of Eldoret captain Kipruto Tarus who leads Nairobi’s Tom Mboya on spread after both tied on 9 wins

The high game of the day was Nairobi’s Muema Muumbi 599 score over Mombasa club Hillary Busienei 510 for a new combined score of 1109 this year.
