Leading by example, team Kenya captain at the Commonwealth Games Elijah Matanoi Manangoi and multiple winner Hellen Obiri won the third and fourth gold for Kenya in Gold Coast, Australia.
Manangoi led 1-2 podium finish with Timothy Cheruiyot in men’s 1,500m race today morning.
The win was good for Kenyan team to 13th place with 17 medals – four gold, seven silver and six bronze.
Manangoi ran to victory in 3:34.78
Obiri won the 5,000m race followed by Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi who won silver in 15:15.28 as Eva Cherono finishing seventh in a personal best time of 13:36.10.
But Alex Kiprotich finished 11th with a throw of 73.21m in javelin as Kenya flattered in the men’s 4x400m relay in which the quartet of Collins Omae, Boniface Mweresa, Aron Koech and Nicholas Bett was disqualified for obstruction.
Youngster Kumari Taki finished seventh in 3:38.74 with Scotland’s Jake Weightman (3:35.97) taking the bronze behind Manangoi and Cheruiyot.
