Limuru Country Club’s John Karichu won the Trans Nzoia Open Championships, the Kenya Amateurs Golf Championships (KAGC) meeting played today on par 73 Kitale golf club.
Karichu, who will turn professional in two months time, played two over 221 to claim the title and go top of the KAGC table with 215.2 points, toppling Edwin Mudanyi to second with 167.2 points.
The two day was a blessing for Karichu who played level (73-) in the opening 18 holes with one over and one under before ending the Saturday with one under 72 with two over 75 and three under 70.
His worst performance was on the last day when he sunk three over 76 with two and one over respectively in the 54 hole championships.
He attributed his win due to perfect putting though with challenges on the course.
“The greens were so bad. They were not cut making it difficult,” said Karichu who added his second win since the championships started. He won the Sigona Bowl, the opener of the championships.
As he plans to turn professional, Karichu beat Vet Lab’s Isaiah Otuke to second with two shots. Otuke played three over 223 as Kenya Railway’s club member Samuel Njoroge ended the podium with five over 225.
Former Captain Robinson Owiti came 4th with nine five 225, Isaac Makhokha, thr only Kenyan deaf from Vet Lab was 5th overall with nine over beating Simon Njogu on count back to 6th.
