Patrick Nderitu Gitonga will be on card to defend his title as top seeded scrabble players’ march to Kitui County for the 5th leg of Scrabble Kenya Championships to be staged at Park Side Villa Hotel.
The two day event, that kicks off on Saturday, ending on Sunday.
But Gitonga will be defending his title against title contender and Kenya One Allan Oyende, the East, Central and Southern Africa Scrabble (ECASA) Championship champion.
Following his prowess in last month’s Nyeri Open, Oyende took over the top seed overtaking Gitonga on-route for Kitui championships.
Scrabble Kenya secretary general Muema Muumbi said the championships has attracted over 60 players as part of their preparations for this year’s Africa Scrabble championships to be staged in Kampala, Uganda while schools category will be used to select a national team for August’s Word English Language Scrabble Players Association (WESPA) to played in Dubai.
“Kitui meeting is very important for players as we prepare for Africa championships. We are expecting over 60 players to take part. We are expecting big names in the game like Allan Oyende, Nicholas Mbugua, Bernard Koyyoko, Bernard Amuke and Patrick Litunya among others,” said Muema.
The duo word smith, represented Kenya last month ECASA, winning top positions.
