Macharia Kimani enjoying overnight lead at Kitui Scrabble Open

Macharia Kimani will enjoy the overnight lead in the opening day of Scrabble Kenya, Kitui Open Scrabble Championships in Kitui County at Park Side Villa Hotel.

As top seed and favoured before the championships Allan Oyende and Kenya two Patrick Gitonga are in 4th and 6th respectively.

Coming from Nyeri County Scrabble Club, Macharia beat his county mate Mwangi Kihuni to second today before heading to tomorrow’s final day of the championships.

The countrywide championships will be used to select the team for Africa Scrabble Championships to be played in Kampala, Uganda.

Macharia seized the initiative on day one managing to outspread teammate Kihuni 759 to 215 after both tied on 8 wins

Nairobi’s Martins Mutahi is third on inferior spread (8 +63)

Kenya one Oyende finished disappointing 4th as second seed Nderitu coming in 6th position a point off the lead are well poised to launch an attack in the final stretch tomorrow

The breakthrough performance is Mwangi Kihuni seeded 23rd but lying 2nd overnight

In the open division, Cosmas Mochere (9 +1034) of Kisii county leads the Uasin Gishu duo of Kipruto Tarus (8 +361) and John Sang (7 +650).
