Former world 3,000m steeplechase champion Hyvin Kiyeng led a Kenyan podium finish at the 4th meeting of IAAF Diamond League in Rome, Italy.
Kiyeng ran the meeting record of 9:04.96 beating Celliphine Chespol Chepteek to second timing 9:05.14 and Norah Jeruto completing the podium clocking 9:07.17. Another Kenya Beatrice Chepkoech came in 5th position 9:15.85.
World 3,000m steeplechase champion Conseslus Kipruto recovered from last week’s Prefontaine lose to win in Rome meeting.
The reigning Commonwealth water and barriers champion beat Benjamin Kigen, a new kid on the blog to second. This was the reverse of Eugene where Kigen relegated Kirptuo to second.
Kipruto, the Olympic Games champion crossed the finish line timing 8:08.40 ahead of Kigen’s 8:10.01 before Ethiopian Chala Beyo (8:11.22) spoilt all podium finish as Amos Kirui came 4th clocking 8:16.44.
Commonwealth Games 800m champion Wycliffe Kinyamal fought his way to win in 800m after coming from behind at 100m to beat Jonathan Kitilit and veteran runner Ferguson Rotich.
Kinyamal, who won in Shanghai Diamond League won in 1:44.65 ahead of Rotich’s 1:44.74 and Kitilit losing with micro seconds to finish third timing 1:44.78.
Timothy Cheruiyot won the 1,500m race beating favourite Elijah Manangoi in a 1-2 finish for Kenyan runners.
Cheruiyot ran the world lead time of 3:3122 ahead of Managoi’s 3:33.79 who competed alongside his young brother George Manangoi who finished 10th timing 3:4175.
