University of Nairobi (UoN) rugby sevens team Mean Machine and Kenyatta University’s (KU) Blak Blad matched into quarter final match in the final leg of Kenya University Sports Association (KUSA) rugby sevens at University of Nairobi grounds today.
Playing on home turf, The Mean Machines won all their opening matches in pool A while KU dominated in pool C to make it to the quarter finals in a low tournament that attracted twelve university unlike in Egerton, which had the highest number of 16.
The hosts started on a high, thrashing Cooperative University 29-0 in their opening match before winning the second 17-07 against Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) leg champions Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).
With the series coming to an end on Sunday afternoon at the same venue, defending champions Blak Blad (KU’s Rugby7s team) matched into the quarters with a win and a loss in the opening matches.
The table leaders, who only need few points to be crowned the champions of the five leg series lost the opener 12-15 against Strathmore Leos before trouncing Multi Media University (MMU) 34-07.
Coming into the last leg, KU led the table standing with 76 points, 12 more than second placed MMUST while United States International University (USIU) on 60 points and failed to honour the last leg.
Hosts were on 54 points into the last leg.
In other results, Zetech University won their two matches-26-00 against Meru and 33-07 over Kabarak, Africa Nazarene University (ANU) beat Catholic University 31-10, DeKUT lost 12-0 to Catholic Monks before MMUST thrashed Cooperative University 39-05 in their second match.
