Kenyan schools will be seeking to defend the overall title at this year’s Federation of East Africa Secondary Games in Musanze, Rwanda.
The team, which was flagged off today in Busia at St Mathias Boys Secondary School in Busia County by the Director of Field Service, Coordination and Co-curricular activities in the Ministry of Education, Chacha Mwita.
The championships set to begin on 17th August, consists of 36 teams featuring 406 students as well as coaches and officials and will be traveling through road and spend the night at Mbarara, Uganda, before setting off for Musanze Friday morning and are expected in Rwanda.
Kenya will join Uganda, Tanzania and the hosts also set to feature in the week-long competition. Burundi and South Sudan will not be represented at this year’s games.
Mwita presented the team captains Smith Rolf and Carolyne Njeri with the Kenyan flag during a brief ceremony held at the school where the team has been camping since Tuesday evening ahead of today’s departure.
Chacha, who represented Education PS Belio Kipsang during the event, appealed to the team to maintain high discipline even as they set their eyes on retaining the overall title.
Teams will be fighting for supremacy in basketball, hockey, volleyball, rugby 7s and 15s, football, handball, netball, swimming, racquet games and athletics.
