Elite and untested athletes will line up for tomorrow’s Iten 10km Road race in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Iten, one of the world’s greatest training ground, better than St. Moritz in Switzerland where many athletes across the world used to train.
In its 8th year, athletes will be taking in the early morning Safaricom sponsored race that starts at Bugar area near Sing’ore girls will end at Elgeyo Marakwet county headquarters.
Top on focus will be on Monica Cheruto, the the former runner up at Rotary Dar Marathon in Tanzania.
The marathon runner said she will be competing in the 10km as part of her training ahead of marathon race.
“I am a marathoner though I will be competing in the 10km and wishing to finish on the podium,” said Cheruto.
She will be facing off with defending champion Edith Chelimo among other top runners in the christened Home of Champion’s due to it’s ever green athletes.
Local organizing Committee ed by Athletics Kenya Elgeyo Marakwet county secretary Boniface Tiren said the preparations are through for the event to take off on Saturday morning along the course that has produced, tapped and nurtured many athletes in the North Rift.
The course has been a training centre for many runners.
“We are ready for the race and we are expecting a large number of entrants,” said Tiren.
