Homeboyz leads top teams in quarters

Dala sevens defending champions Homeboyz stayed on course to defend their title when they led pool D in the opening day of Dala Sevens National Rugby sevens circuit in Mambo Leo Showground in lake town city of Kisumu.

Following their triple wins in sevens opener at Prinsloo in Nakuru, Sepetuka in Eldoret and Kabeberi in Machakos, The Deejays beat Nondescripts 22-07 in their final match.

Homeboyz will face off with Kabras Sugar who finished second in pool C.

Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) led Pool C and will play Nondies in the quarterfinals. KCB won 22-10 over Kabras Sugar.

Driftwood sevens champions Mwamba leads pool B after Daniel Taabu’s last gasp converted try saw Kulabu secure a 17-17 draw to top Pool B, Resolution Impala Saracens fortuitously claiming second place in the pool.

Kenya Harlequins secured top place in Pool A, beating Masinde Muliro 27-0 to finish day one unbeaten, setting up a cup quarterfinal date against Pool B runners up Resolution Impala Saracens. They were joined by Top Fry Nakuru who stopped Resolution Kisii 27-5 to claim second place in the pool.

A 22-19 win over Top Fry Nakuru saw Quins post their second successive win, reaching the cup quarterfinal with a game to spare. Also reaching the last eight in Kisumu was Stanbic Mwamba who coasted to a 24-7 victory over Resolution Impala Saracens and KCB who were 22-5 winners over Northern Suburbs. Nondescripts and Menengai Cream Homeboyz also made the cup quarterfinals with 31-7 and 41-0 wins over MKU Thika and hosts Silverstone Kisumu respectively.

Kenya Harlequin started the Silverstone Dala Sevens with a resounding 45-5 Pool A win over Resolution Kisii. There were also wins for Top Fry Nakuru, Resolution Impala Saracens, Stanbic Mwamba and KCB while Northern Suburbs held pre-match favorites Kabras Sugar to a 17-17 draw. Defending champions and current Stanbic Bank National Sevens Circuit leaders Menengai Cream Homeboyz posted a 46-0 victory over MKU Thika while KCB and Nondescripts also won their opening fixtures.
