Reigning World Mountain Running Champion Lucy Wambui Murigi and Geoffrey Gikuni Ndung’e will be leading the Kenyan contingent to the global competitions set for Sunday in Andorra.
Murigi, who claimed the title for Kenya for the first time last years in Premana, Italy, headlined the team of 8 Mountain Running experts for the national assignment.
The squad is leaving the country on Thursday morning and is expected to in Barcelona at 17.35 en-root to Andorra for the championships that is taking place on Sunday September 16th.
Murigi, also the 2014 World silver medalist, will team up with Budding Mountain Running revelations Purity Kajuju Gitonga, Joyce Muthoni Njeru and Viola Jelagat, who finished 5th in Cassete de Massa, Italy in 2014.
Geoffrey Gikuni Ndung’u, who has dominated Mountain Running competitions for the last two years, leads the men team of 4 competitors picked owing to their dominance in running genre.
Others in the team include experienced Stephen Ndege, Japhet Mutwiri Mwenda and newly discovered Timothy Kimutai Kirui.
Nyanza South Athletics Kenya Regional Chairman Peter Angwenyi, who was appointed the Mountain Running Programe Coordinator last year, is leading the team.
