Upstarts Bernard Kipkorir Ngeno and Derivine Meringor were crowned the champions of the 5th edition of Chemususu Dam Half titles held today in Baringo County.
The Bomet based runner said won the race in 62:50 to edge out other competitors.
“I have been training a lot to ensure that I win at least a race in Kenya because I have been doing well outside Kenya in short road races,” said Azeal Trail 10km champion.
The 21km distance began at Maji Mazuri area ending at Metipso primary school ground as Ng’eno says the race part of his training programme after finishing 6th in last month’s Kisii half marathon.
He beat Philip Langat (63:52), Alex Kibet (63:53), Festus Cheboi among others.
But luck was for Derivine Meringor who trounced experienced road race specialists like former Berlin marathon champion Valentine Jepketer, former world half marathon bronze medallist Paskalia Jepkorir to win the title in 73:21.
“The race was too competitive but luck was on my side that is why I win,” said Meringor.
She floored veterans Jepkorir and Jepketer who turned second and 6th positions respectively clocking 74:03 And 75:30 with Lydia Njeri completing the podium in 74:23.
