Inaugural Kaptagat Forest top athletes were feted today in a ceremony held at Elegrini Hotel in Kaptagat, Uasin Gishu County.
Top runners led by two time Toronto marathon champion Philemon Rono and new kid Cynthia Jerop were rewarded following their victory last Sunday in the race set to conserve Kaptagat dubbed Sports for Conservation.
Winners were rewarded kshs 100,000 as they prepare to compete at the top notch road races in the world.
Rono will be taking on Canadian Capital to defend his title on 21st October 2018 while Jerop will be competing at the standard Chartered marathon in November.
Race director Patrick Birgen Mutai said the race will be an annual one bearing the race was very competitive, attracting top runners across the country.
“We have good plans for this race and we are hoping to grow it to international standards. The outcome was pleasing and we want to maintain the tempo,” said Birgen.
