ADAK, FKF partner to fight doping

Anti-doping crusaders Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) has partnered with Football Kenya Federation (FKF) in have rolled out anti-doping workshops for the National Super League, the second tier league.

The workshops, which are mandatory to all the NSL Clubs’ players and officials, will see players taken through anti-doping rules violations, the Doping Control Process as well as the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) Prohibited List.

“We are aiming at sharing information about anti-doping with the players so as to sensitize them on what to do and what not to, in regards to the use of prohibited substances,” said ADAK educator Tim Ngugi.

The second day of the workshop saw players and officials from NSL sides Kenya Police, Kibera Black Stars, Kangemi All-Stars, Bidco United and Administration Police take part, with the latter’s midfielder Julius Muteti expressing satisfaction in what he had gained from the workshop.

“It has been an eye-opener. I have learnt a lot about what I should and should not use and I am optimistic that it will go a long way in keeping us players clean for the good of the sport,” he said.

FKF NEC Member for Central Region David Njoroge expressed the Federation’s commitment to promoting fair play while noting that the workshop, a first of its kind undertaken by the FKF, is necessary to ensure that there is a level playing ground for fair competition.

“This is the first time our players are being taken through anti-doping sessions. We are looking to take the workshops across the country to have an impact to all players in the NSL,” said Mr. Njoroge, who heads the FKF Medical Committee.

“As a Federation, we are committed to the spirit of fair play and as such, our partnership with ADAK will go a long way in sensitizing our players to play clean,” he added.

The Anti-Doping team will on Friday, September 28, 2018, head to Mombasa for a session with NSL sides Coast Stima and Modern Coast Rangers.
