Top Seed scrabble Kenya player Allan Oyende commanded the lead, winning 11 out of 11 rounds in the day one of Kenya Scrabble championships at Skynet County Hotel today in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County.
Oyende who was in imperious form to take a 3 game lead overnight ahead of Sunday’s final 7 rounds at the same venue.
The Stima Club member travelled all the way from Nairobi and his journey will pay off when he takes on the final rounds as Scrabble Kenya is using the national championships to select a formidable team to represent the country at the World English Language Scrabble Players Association to be staged in India.
But the 100% win has not troubled Oyende, who said that he takes any game as serious as he can to avoid making simple mistakes.
“I believe I have been exceedingly lucky today. I scrambled on a few wins but it is early for me to celebrate. We have seen many players starting well, even with five games but lose later,” said Oyende who has been part of the national team.
He added that he normally treats each day as its own and tomorrow he will be going to start a fresh, with the plan as if he is at zero.
“Today I had a lucky day but I faced a toughest challenge from my first game with Irungu Wamucii (who was the only female player in Division One) but she made a few mistake and I managed to get a win,” said Oyende.
