Brigid Kosgei won Chicago marathon title with her personal best in the marathon, ousting Ethiopians today.
After finishing second last year, Kosgei returned to the course winning ahead of Ethiopian Roza Dereje timing 2:18.35
With only three Kenyan women on the course, she led former world half marathon record holder and 2016 title champion Florence Kiplagat who finished 4th Veronica Nyaruai in 5th position.
Kosgei wowed fans last year with a second place finish in Chicago, running the sixth fastest time ever run in the Windy City race.
She opened her 2018 season with a boom, finishing second in London in another personal best of 2:20:13 outpaced Dereje.
Kosgei lost to Ethiopia’s Tirunesh Dibaba last year to win with the sixth fastest time ever in the Windy City race and went ahead to win Honolulu Marathon in 2:22:15.
She finished second in London after losing the battle to compatriot Vivian Cheruiyot and clocked 1:07:52 effort at the Great North Run, finishing a close second to London Marathon champion Vivian Cheruiyot.
The 24-year-old has now finished first or second in eight of her nine career marathons.
The 2015 and 2016 champion Kiplagat settled fourth in 2:26:08 with compatriot Veronicah Nyaruai finishing fifth but in personal best 2:31:34.
