Reigning Kenya premier league (KPL) champions Gor Mahia will begin their title defence against 2018 runners up Bandari fc in Mombasa according to the 2018/2019 calendar that was released today by KPL management.
Kenya Commercial Bank, who returns in the KPL after two years, will begin their match against Kakamega Homeboyz in the SportPesa sponsored league.
With the new calendar, the league kicks off in December unlike the usual February to November but KPL is seeking to conform to a directive from the Confederation of African Football (Caf) requiring all leagues on the continent to begin in August and end in May the following year.
The new season will kick off on Saturday, December 8 with former champions AFC Leopards playing Kariobangi Sharks at Machakos stadium as Mathare United will host Chemelil Sugar at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani, Gor heads to Mombasa against Bandari and Posta Rangers play another KPL returnee Western Stima in Ruaraka.
The winner of the playoffs clash between Ushuru and Nakumatt FC will tackle Sofapaka in an early kick-off clash that will be staged at Ruaraka Sports Grounds.
