Former Barcelona marathon champion Valary Aiyabei Jemeli will be the star attraction at this Sunday’s Standard Chartered Nairobi marathon.
Jemeli will be facing off with former Olympics Games 5,000m bronze medallist Sylvia Jebiwot Kibet.
The reigning Beijing marathon champion, Jemeli will be competing on the course for the first time following her exploits in both 42km and 21km distance while Kibet, who won silver in 5,000m at the 2009 Berlin and 2011 Daegu World Championships finished fourth at Hamburg Marathon.
Kibet returns to the course for the second time after finishing second at the same course in 2015 in a personal best of 2:26:16.
Kibet, 34, who holds a personal best of 1:09:32 in Half Marathon from 2015 Ostia.
Also to confirm participation in the women’s half marathon are seasoned long distance runners Eunice Chebet and Naomi Jepkorir Kipsanai.
