Geoffrey Kamworor wins bronze in New York Marathon

Three time world half marathon champion Geoffrey Kipsang Kamworor failed to defend his New York Marathon title after falling to Ethiopian Lesisa Desisa in the fight to the finish line.

The three time world cross country champion to finish third behind two time Boston marathon champion Desisa and Shura Kitata as Ethiopians took positions 1-2.

Desisa clocked 2:00:59 to finish top ahead of Kitata in 2:06:03 as Kamworor completed the podium timing 2:06:26

Desisa finished second in New York in 2014 and third in 2015 and 2017, finally claimed the crown and could not hid his joy.

Desisa was 54 seconds off the New York men’s record set in 2011 by Geoffrey Mutai of Kenya in 2011.
