Mororia village hosted the winners party as queen of New York City marathon Mary Keitany jetted back home today at the Eldoret International Airport.
The three time London marathon champion won her fourth title at the New York City Marathon on Sunday on the American soil.
After jetting in at the Eldoret International Airport the convoy headed to Mororia village in Elgeyo Marakwet county for all evening party.
At hand to received the current queen of New York City marathon were athletes led by former world marathon record holder Wilson Kipsang, double world marathon champion Edna Kiplagat, 2015 barcelona marathon champion Philip Kangogo Elias Kiptum among others.
Following a short sacred service, Mursik party and Sinendet ceremony at the Airport, the convoy headed to Mororia village for the celebrations.
“I will be happy if I make it to London but for now am focusing on recovery. I will discuss with my manager to see how to begin the year that is two months ahead,” said Keitany who was accompanied by her husband cum coach Charles Koech and their two children.
“Apart from us competing, we are friends which is good in sports at all times,” said Keitany.
Koech was optimistic that having a sports person like her is an achievement.
“The good thing with Mary, she understands what she wants in life. Both in training and at the completion,” koech praised his wife who had accompanied their two children from America.
Elgeyo Marakwet County was represented by county speaker and sports Committee minister Anita Kimwatan and other top officials from the county who vowed to make the athletes as county ambassadors.
