Kenyan Betty Lempus and Dickson Tuwei won bronze medals in today’s Shanghai International marathon held in China with ethiopia’s Yebrgual Melese and Abdiwak Tura were the winners in women and men races respectively.
Despite being the best on the course, former world marathon record holder Dennis Kimetto failed to live his expectations as e finished 10th to win his first marathon since 2016.
Lempus from West Pokot improved on her personal best to finish third behind Melese who won with a course record of 2:30.27 from 2:21.52 set by compatriot Tigist Tufa as Azmera Abrea (Ethiopia) was second timing 2:21.51 as Lempus completed the podium in 2:23:41 for her personal best.
Tura defeated country mate Tsegaye Mekonnen to second who were all in front of the finish.
Tura clocked 2:09:20 to claim the title ahead of Tura’s and Dickson Tuwei of Kenya finished third in 2:09:21 as former world record marathon holder Dennis Kimetto completed his first marathon for two-and-a-half years, finishing a distant 10th in 2:14:55. His time was almost 12 minutes slower than his 2:02:57 best from 2014, but would have given him some confidence after three successive incomplete marathons.
