Kelvin Wambua scored the lone goal as hosts University of Eldoret Hockey team won against Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
The 40th minute goal sealed the top position the UOE side popularly called the Panthers in the Kenya Hockey national League played today at the UOE ground.
The hosts dominated in all quarters as they registered barren draws in quarter one, two and four as luck befell the panthers in quarter 3.
A short corner from Kenneth Kitheka was well connected by Wambua to collect maximum points ahead of their final match on December 8th against University of Nairobi as they seek to be promoted to the second tier, the Kenya Hockey Super league.
The university side lost only one match against Bungoma farmers and they have tied on 24 points but Bungoma has completed their matches.
Team manager Emmanuel Asaph said they are well prepared for the last match and whatever the out-come, they hjave already booked a ticket for the promotion.
“Two team will be promoted to the second tier and any result will make us through.
The team that was formed in 2010 has gone through various financial challenges but Asaph was optimistic that the long wait has finally paid off after 2018 came with good results by joining the league.
“We have won 8 out of 9 matches in league of 11 teams and being the only team that plays at the league in this county, we are seeking for financial support to enable us travel for away matches,” appealed Asaph.
“We are well prepared for the super league since 90% of these hockey players are students who are disciplined. The players are well skilled,” conlcuded Asaph.
