Reigning world junior 5,000m champion Beatrice Chebet and Tegla Loroupe Peace Race champion Michael bet were the winners of the 11th edition of Tuskys Wareng Cross country championships held today at Huruma grounds, Eldoret.
Chebet battled great of all greats in the 6km junior race. She had to win against Olympic Youth 1,500m champion Edna Jebitok and world youth 3,000m silver medalist Immaculate Chepkirui.
The world under 18 4th placed runner said her focus will be to compete at the world cross country championships in Denmark.
“The course was windy and sunny but I managed to win the race. This is magic,” said Chebet who is targeting world cross country title.
She won the race timing 20:20.53 ahead of Jebitok, the world under 18 bronze medalist who timed 20:38.23 and world junior 5,00m silver medalist Chepkirui in 20:31.91.
Jebitok is the Africa Youth 5,00m silver medalist while Chepkirui has World Youth 3,000m silver and Africa 5,000m silver.
Fresh from winning Tegla Loroupe Peace race in West Pokot, Michael Kibet won the 8km junior race timing 23:51.1 ahead of Bravin Kogei (24:81.22) and Charles Kakuri’s 24:03.4.
