Eldonets shine over Emyba in play-off opener

James Ongwae and Enock Ongecha were top scorers as Eldonets won the first Kenya Basketball Division One against Emyba played today at Uasin Gishu High School Court today.

Ongwae and Ongecha made 19 and 15 baskets as Eldonets won 98-89 ahead of Sunday’s second match at the same venue.

Emyba’s Thomas Kioko was the top scorer with 31 baskets which did not offer good results for the Nairobi based team.

Eldonets won three out of four quarters as both teams prepare for top league in the country.

Taking advantage of home ground, Eldonets took the lead in the first quarter of 30-24 followed by a narrow one point lead in the second quarter at 27-26 before Emyba winning the third quarter 21-23.

In the last quarter, played with too much intensity and multiple injuries, Eldonets came from 5-0 down to win with 20-16 to take first match advantage against the visitors.

James Ongwae and Enock Ongecha were the top scorers for the hosts scoring 19 and 15 points respectively.

Two matches will be played in Eldoret’s before playing other three in Nairobi as they seek for the top position in the Division One side ahead of new season.
