Kevin Juma takes one shot lead at Uhuru Shield at Royal

Playing on home ground, Kevin Juma will enjoy a one shot lead ahead of the second round of the Uhuru Shield golf tournament on par 72 Royal Nairobi Golf club today.

Juma started the back nine well picking up pars, though he dropped shots at the 16th and 18th for two over par 74 to lead a group of nine players including Kenya Amateur Matchplay champion Daniel Nduva of Nyali, who made it to Royal on time for the event from his base in South Africa.

Now playing off plus two handicap, Nduva who is also here to defend his home title, the Nyali Open in two weeks’ time, had an awful first nine, where he picked up a double bogey at the sixth, having dropped shots at the first, third and fourth.

And as if that was not enough, Nduva who had birdied the par fives second and the seventh, dropped one more shot at the eighth for four over par in the opening nine.

He however bogeyed the last three holes at the back nine having earlier picked up birdies on the 10th, 12th, 14th and 15th for one under and a three over par 75, same with Simon Njogu of the Great Rift Valley Resort, Robinson Owiti of Vet Lab, Kericho’s Victor Maiyo, Paul Muchangi and John Karichu, Railway’s George Felix, home player Joshua Ichangi and youngster Zubair Khan of Muthaiga.
