Nzoia, KCB, Mathare wins as Ulinzi is held

Nzoia Sugar added misery to relegation threatened Mount Kenya United formerly Nakumatt as Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) surprisingly defeated defending champions Gor Mahia in a tense match that ended prematurely in the Kenya Premier league (KPL) matches.

But league leaders Mathare United taught cash strapped Vihiga United football lessons as they opened a five point lead.

At Sudi stadium, Nzoia Sugar defeated visiting Mount kenya United 2-0 with Collins Wakhungu netting a brace to total their points to 14.

Wakhungu opened the score in the 10th minute before adding the second eighteen minutes later.

KCB ended the jinx on losing to Gor Mahia after winning with a solitary goal in an ill-tampered match at Machakos stadium.

Kennedy Owino scored the solitary goal to give bankers maximum points in the 22nd minute.

Moffat Juma deflected in his own net to give Mathare the lead in the 50th minute before Clifford Nyakeya made it 3-1 in the 52nd minute.

The win for slum boys moves them five points clear of second placed Bandari who lost the Sportpesa Super Cup to Kariobangi Sharks in Tanzania. Mathare have now collected 23 points as Vihiga United remain 11th with nine points.

Former champions Ulinzi Stars played to a barren draw against their visitors kakamega Homeboyz at Afraha stadium, Nakuru.

2009 champions Sofapaka defeated Zoo Kericho in another encounter. They conquered their home ground at Machakos stadium with 2-3 goal rush.

Piston Mutamba broke the deadlock with just 20 minutes into the match to give hosts the lead as Elly Asieche doubled the lead in the 29th minute as substitute Umaru Kasumba stretched the lead to 3-0 into break.

On resumption, Danson Chetambe easily converted the penalty to give Zoo Kericho a breathe in 58th minute before Johnstone Ligare adding the second for the visitors for a final 3-2 win.
