Allan Oyende of Nairobi County took the overnight lead at the ongoing Kitui region Scrabble Kenya (SK) championships.
The Word Warriors, the national scrabble team will be using the tournaments ahead of East, Central and Southern Africa Scrabble (ECASA) championships in Lusaka, Zambia and World English Scrabble Players Association Championships (WESPAC) in Goa, India.
Oyende, currently rated first in the country, won nine matches losing two matches to Nderitu Gitonga of Kirinyaga County and teammate Martins Mutahi ahead of Sunday’s final round at the same venue.
Second seed Gitonga Nderitu of Kirinyaga County has taken second position with similar wins and losses as Onani Magwanga completes top three.
Wamucii Irungu leads Division 2, while Urbanus Kimathi leads in the Open section
