Two time Africa Athletics silver Medalist Kaan Kigen Ozbilen formerly Mike Kigen will be lining up this Sunday for Rotterdam marathon in Netherlands.
The Kenyan born turn Turkish international will be lining up against two time champion Marius Kipserem, who won in 2016 and defended in 2017 before Kenneth Kipkemoi won in 2018, Sydney marathon champion Elijah kemboi and Aires marathon winner Emmanuel Saina in hunt of the title with defending champion missing in the race as Kipkemoi will be competing in Boston.
Ozbilen said he had a good training programme on Tuesday against world marathon record holder Eliu Kipchoge among others at Global Sports Communication.
“I am hoping for the best after having a good training programme today. I always have a good and competitive training group. With such, you can make it to the top,” said Ozbilen.
The Kenyan who switched allegiance to Turkey in 2015 set season best of 2:06.10 during 2018 season at Seoul marathon.
“that has boosted my morale ahead of the Rotterdam race. My focus is to run the best. My training has been going on well in readiness for the event,” added the former cross country runner.
While running for Kenya, Ozbilen won silver in 2006 during Africa senior Athletics championships in 5,000m and 10,000m before making his debut in half marathon in Lisbon where he finished 5th later joined marathon and finished 8th in Dubai cloaking 2:08.24.
“I want to improve on my time with the race title on Sunday. I know it will be challenging but I have to try my best and good luck will follow me to Netherlands,” added Ozbilen.
