4x400m a reprieve for Kenya team at world relays

Kenya team captain at the world Relays championships in Yokohama, Japan Aron Koech anchored his team to qualify into the finals in 4x400m relay as the championships kicked off today ahead of tomorrow’s final.

Koech, who won the Africa Athletics championships gold in Assaba, Nigeria coordinated well with Jared Momanyi, Maureen Thomas and Hellen symbua to after they timed 3:16.90 in heat two, finishing behind Canada (3:16.78) and Germany (3:16.85) to qualify.

But it was bad day for Kenyan sprinters who failed to dominate in the championships.

Kenya was crashed out of the mixed 2x2x400m and women’s 4x400m. in the 2x2x400m, Collins Kipruto and Eglay Nalyanya were disqualified after Nalyanya stepped out of the track with USA (3:36.92), Australia (3:37.61) and hosts Japan (3:38.36) took the medals.

In women’s 4x400m, Maureen Thomas, Hellen Syombua, Neviah Michira and Gladys Musyoki finished 5th in heat one timing 3:31.26.
