Murumba wins round one of chairman’s prize

Paul Murumba fired a round total of 40 stableford points to emerge victorious on the first day of the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) Chairman’s prize on par 72 Limuru Golf club.

Coming from Thika Golf club, Murumba won the title to mark the end of Lucas Maranga’s reign as KGU chairman as he ushers in Anthony Murage for the next one year.
Playing off handicap 12 the amateur golfer  carded an identical 20 stableford points on both 9 to prevail over a field of 153 golfers. 
He relegated Godwin Karunga of Vetlab Golf Club with 39 stableford points. He carded 21 in the front 9 and 18 in the back 9.
In third place were four golfers all with 38 stableford points. 
Eight more golfers carded 37 stableford points to get the fourth place. 
Sandrah Mundia was the top lady with a superb 37 stableford points. 
In fifth position was Belinda Wanjiru of Golf Park, posting an impressive score of 35 stableford points. 
Marang’a applauded the support sponsors have given the Union in making the day a great success and encouraged the golf fraternity to support junior golf as a way to grow the sport countrywide. 
“My joy is that we have developed a culture that supports young golfers in the union. I hope this will continue as a way to grow the sport across the country and throughout the chain to professional golfers. This sport can be a livehood for many young golfers if they get the right nurturing, the union is here to support the youth in developing their golf talents, ” he said
