JKUAT, GOA are 2019 Roll Ball league champions

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture Technology (JKUAT) and Glory Outreach Assemblies (GOA) are the 2019 Kenya Roll Ball Federation (KRBF) National league champions in the league that ended on Sunday.

JKUAT won the men’s title after dethroning Reccebellas who won the 2018 title while Glory Outreach Assembly (GOA) retained their women title after beating Archibella again.

According to league coordinator Geoffrey Barasa, this year’s league was the most competitive ever with teams fighting to the last day to determine the winner.

“I have to appreciate individuals who took their time to make the league successful. The passion was great with lots of self sacrifices by all of us. I dedicate this success to you all for you played a major role in the whole process and our esteemed players,” said Barasa.

He urged teams to keep training and work harder as they look forward to National teams training in preparation to the world cup.

The end of the season opens up transfer window that kicks off today to 10th August 2019.

The league contains 8 men teams and 7 women teams where a total of 21 matches for women and 28 matches for men are played, which was an increase from 6 men to 8 (Decathlon Tigers and Meru university)and from 5 to 7 for women (Hornets and Meru university).

It is the first time the men league has been won by an institution team (JKUAT) who dethroned.

“Our main challenge remains the venues which are not available and most of the time affected by weather since Roll Ball is an indoor sport. We are requesting for sponsors to join us develop these facilities and also the government to allow us to access the Kasarani indoor arena to hold our leagues,” said Barasa.

The eight year old sport has won various international tittles. He said that they are requesting the minister for sports to help them submit their trophies to the head of state for recognition and token to these players who have played in four world cups.

“Our women won in 2015 title and currently both teams are ranked third in the world, five East Africa Championships, won four of them both men and women and two Africa Championship(won both-men and women). We are looking forward to the government and corporate sponsors support as we prepare and plan to attend the World Cup,” said Barasa.
