KCB hit Homeboyz to win Kakamega7s

Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) thrashed national champions Homeboyz at the inaugural Kakamega sevens, the opener of the National rugby sevens series at Bull Ring Stadium in Kakamega County today.

The champions took the lead through Vincent Onyala with Brian Juma, who last season played for Homeboyz added the extras for a 7-0 lead.

But the reigning champions capitalized on Olindi’s sin-bin to slot in their opening try through Collins Shikoli as Levy Amunga converted for a 7-all draw into the break.

On resumption, Olindi, direct from the sin-bin punished his former team with a try that he converted for a 14-07 lead before Isaac Njoroge touched down the third try with for a 21-07 lead but Shikoli touched down for the second try for a 21-12 win.

Onyala was the highest try scorer in the tournament with 55 points from 11 tries as well as the Most Valuable Player.

Mwamba won bronze following a 24-0 thrashing of Nakuru RFC.

At the semifinals, Homeboyz mercilessly thrashed Nakuru 24-0 while KCB were 05-19 winners over Mwamba.

At the quarter-finals, Homeboyz beat Nondescripts 15-05 with Nakuru stunning Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) 22-12 while Mwamba were 5-3 winners over Impala Saracens and KCB beat Strathmore University Leos 28-12.

Following the win, KCB leads the standing with 22 points ahead of Homeboyz’s 19. Mwamba in third with 17 followed by Nakuru 15 and Strathmore’s 13. Nondescripts have 12 followed by MMUST 10 tying with Impala Saracens as Menengai Oilers in 9th position with 8 as Mean Machine with 7. in 11th position is Egerton Wasps with 5 points followed by Kabras Sugar 5, Western Bulls 3, Kisii RFC 2, and Kisumu RFC 1 and Kenya Harlequin 1 tails.
