Uasin Gishu volleyball teams are chasing a hat trick and defend their titles at the 2019 Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (Kicosca) Games chasing an ultimate interest set for next week in Kericho County.
The one-week event that kicks off on August 11th to August 17th Uasin Gishu men and women will be an opportunity for the champions seeking to defend their titles following their victories in the 2017 and 2018 championships held in Machakos and Kisii Counties respectively.
In the men’s category, Uasin Gishu registered a 3-1 win over neighbours Nakuru 3-1 and 3-2 in 2017 and 2018 while their women beat Nairobi 3-1 in Machakos in 2018 and a 3-0 win over Nairobi.
As they take their training seriously at Eldoret Sports Club, the teams are focused on winning their third straight titles to be awarded the gong, a trophy they will keep in their trophy cabinets, forever.
Men’s coach Nicholas Bitok, the teams are going to the games this year with a lot of significance because it determines whether or not they will be back to Eldoret with the trophy.
“This trophy is so important to us bearing in mind the big interest. We have embarked on serious training ahead of the games at the high altitude Kericho County headquarters,” said Bitok.
“We started off serious training three weeks ago because we do not want to leave anything to chance, the trophy must be brought to Eldoret because we are the champions ourselves,” added Bitok.
The champions lead pool H alongside Senate, Kisii and Machakos.
His counterpart and namesake Ken Bitok will be steering his women’s team to defend the title too.
He said that the women are well prepared, ready to take on any opposition.
“Of course, our goal this year is to win the third title and bring the trophy to Eldoret. We are here to sharpen their skills and make them ready for the games,” said Ken Bitok
