Obiri leads Chelimo, Kasait into 5,000m finals in Doha

World champion Hellen Obiri started her title defence on high at the 17th edition of IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha Qatar at Khalifa International on Thursday 2nd October.

Obiri, the reigning world cross country champion won heat one timing 14:52.13 ahead of USA’s Karissa Schweizer (14:52.41) and Ethiopia’s Hawi Feysa (14:53.85) for top three positions.

Other two Kenyans Margaret Chelimo and Lilian Kasait also qualified after finishing 3rd and 4th in heat two.

Ethiopian Tsehay Gechemu won the heat in 15:01.57 ahead of Germany Konstanze Klosterhalfen (15:01.57) before Chelimo came third in 15:01.58 and Kasait, the national champion in 15:02.03.
