Beijing marathon champion Valary Aiyabei Jemeli won the Frankfurt Marathon with a course record on Sunday 27th in Germany.
The former Barcelona marathon winner ran with a course record of 2:19.10 to smash the course record of 2:20:36 that was then held by Ethiopia’s Meskerem Assefa.
The 2018 Standard Chartered marathon champion become the first woman to run sub 2:20 in Frankfurt as she became the 5th fastest female runner this season.
She relegated Ethiopians Megertu Alemu (2:21:00) to second Assefa (2:22:01) to\ third after failing to defend her title.
As Jemeli shone in women, it was a Ethiopia’s podium sweep in men race.
Fikre Bekele won the title in 2:07:08 ahead of compatriot Dawit Arega who timed 2:07:10 while Aweke Ayalew sealed the podium in 2:07:12 with Martin Kosgey emerging as the best Kenyan.
