Kshs 10 million raised ahead of MT Kenya Running Championships

The inaugural Mount Kenya Mountain Running Championships received KShs 10 million sponsorship ahead of the race scheduled for 22nd February in Meru County.

Host  Governor Kiraitu Murungi lauded the sponsorship deal for the generous support; adding that the sponsorship will go a long way towards ensuring the event is a success.

“The support they have accorded us for this initiative; the generosity will go a long way towards ensuring that the objectives of the forthcoming run are met,” he said.

He urged the stakeholders to come on board on the initiative as they we forward to challenge the heights and have a fruitful event.

According to the organizers, the event seeks to attract more than 5000 participants to boost Meru County’s profile as a preferred tourism and investment destination as well as to enhance awareness of the county’s adventure sports offering.

The event will feature four race categories, 2km family fun run, 6km and 8km junior run and a 12km elites’ race through the challenging Mount Kenya forest tracks.

The elite winner of the 12KM race category will take home KShs 500,000 while runner-up will take home KShs 250,000; while the second runner-up will take home KShs 100,000.

Registration continues at mtkenyarun.co.ke and closes on Friday, February 14, 2020; with over 1,000 participants having already registered to take part in the event.
