Manek tops Lady Captain’s prize

Long wait for Kamal Manek to win any title came to an end today following his victory at Lady Captain’s prize played today at nine hole Eldoret golf club.

Playing handicap 17, who dedicated his win to Ruhi Manek, a student at Yale University carded 41 stable ford points to claim victory on a course that he is used to maintaining for years.

The tournament, which was sponsored by Eldoret Water and Sanitation (ELDOWAS) marked the tenure for Jane Koech as Eldoret Club’s Lady captain after two years at the helm.

With his surprise win, Manek said he can’t remember the last time he won any tournament despite being active on the course, playing golf.

“It has been long since I won in this club. The victory came with blessings after making sure the greens are in good condition for each golfer,” said Manek.

“We had super and very fast greens. I feel great to win captains she has been good

She has done an excellent  job,” he added.

Apart from the win, he added that he played super golf with great playing partners like Ajay Shah and former captain Vandeep Grewal.

“I enjoyed myself and my for you to play well you must be good in putting and that is what I did because the pins were placed in difficult conditions,” explained Manek.

He started on a low note, doping one pared in the second dropped two in 3 and 4, bogeyed in 5th and 6th recovered with a par in 7, 8 and 9 for a total of 19 points in the front nine.

On resumption, he parred on 10th , 12, 14, 15, and 17 as he bogeyed in 11th 13th and 16th for a total of 21 points in the back nine.

Handicap 16 golfer Rishi Shah, who finished second on 39 points, was the male winner ahead of Ken Serem with 37 points and Luka Cheserek on 36 points was third.

Elgeyo Marakwet minister for Sports Anita Kimwatani was the ladies winner on 38 points ahead of Susan Bett (37) and Rosemary Cuthbert (35).

On 19 point was Nawaz Manji who claimed first nine prize as Mary Kiptoo won the second nine on 21.

Serem was on podium again to receive longest drive for men as Mildred Natecho won the ladies title before Kamal Shah taking home the nearest to the pin prize.
