Former Toronto marathon champion Benson Kipruto and Lucy Cheruiyot won the 34th edition of Electrolit Guadalajara Half Marathon ran on Sunday.
Kenya’s Jeoffrey Kimutai, Kipruto, Cosmas Birech, Peru’s Ulises Martin and Mexico’s two-time winner and two-time Olympic finalist Juan Luis Barrios.
Kipruto secured the title in 1:02:13, a personal best over the distance.
Cheruiyot won the women’s race ahead of Winfridah Moraa, Margaret Agai, Visiline Jepkesho and Ethiopia’s Belaynesh Oljira.
Cheruiyot launched her attack in the last 400m, but Oljira could not respond and was content to settle for second. The 23-year old Kenyan crossed the finish line in 1:10:52, four seconds ahead of the Ethiopian.
