The stalled iconic Kamariny stadium in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet county will be ready for use in the next four months.
While on an inspection tour today, the sports Cabinet Administrative Secretary Hassan Noor Hassan said that the facility, which has lagged behind for competition will be done in the next four months after the contractor went back on the site.
Noor said they have been lacking funds to complete the facility but that should be behind.
“We now have reliable funding source from the national government and we hope we will be completing the remaining construction works that will take the shortest time possible. As you know, this is the region of champions, especially here in Iten, the home of champions as far as Kenyans sportsmen and women are concerned. And that is why the national government is making sure that this stadium is up and running in as shortest time as possible,” said Noor.
He added that the Kenyan men and women have gallantly flown the flag at high levels internationally in competitions, and the only thing they can give them is providing adequate facilities which they can enhance their performance and nurture the young talents that keep on coming up day and night.
“We know that the champions that come from here are from humble backgrounds. They have not been mentored by anybody, not in sports academies, never had the best coaches in the world but they have gone ahead to give us accolades that we can never forget. And as the ministry, we are really concern and president and his wisdom has decided that funding is sourced from the national sports fund that himself has set aside,” assured Noor.
He assured the contractor that resources are available and they are going to test his capacity on the stadium.
“The challenge of the national treasury fund has always been shifting everyday and every night. And priorities keep on shifting. Now we have the coronavirus that has taken much funding but we are happy that sports fund has set aside the resources for completion of works that has been tendered,” he added.
Noor had earlier on visited Kipchoge Keino stadium in Uasin Gishu County and promised that it will also come to a completion in the next few months.
