Elgonview FC mourns the demise of captain Banda

Football fans in Rift Valley are mourning a sudden demise Branch League side Elgonview College FC captain Richard Banda who passed on last week.

The team’s head coach Fred Ngawo announced the death of the midfielder on Monday afternoon wrote: “EVC FC mourns the death of our midfield maestro Richard Banda. May his soul rest in peace.”

According to Ngawo, the ugandan player, a student at Elgonview college passed on and was hurriendly buried in his homeland due to the biting coronavirus pandemic.

He said that the course of the death is not known.

“The circumstances are not very clear yet but preliminary information is food poisoning. He died in Uganda over the weekend,” said Ngawo.

Following his heartbreaking news, fans, players and managers poured their condolesence messages to the entire team.

Eldoret Falcons coach Joshua Ariko wrote: “Pole sana may his soul rest in peace.” David Simiyu said “Poleni Sana Ngawo Fred and your team.”

Bruce wrote: “Whaaat. So sad. A very good talented midfielder gone too soon. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Former Uasin Gishu branch chairman Paul Tororei wrote: “Poleni Sana Evc fc, it’s so sad to lose such young talents. God rest his soul in eternal peace,” he was followed by his predecessor Peter Chesang who said “Pole Sana to the club and family so sad indeed a promising talent may he RIP.”

Ngawo added “On behalf of myself and EVC FC team management, we really appreciate your humbling wishes of good faith following the demise of our Captain and dependable player. The initial call and recorded message sent by his mother last night was not very clear but after talking to his sister today it’s clear that he died sometimes way back due to food poisoning and was buried quickly due to lockdown measures in Uganda. Richie was at EVC on contractual obligations having played before for Chemelil and Muhoroni Youth and only left for home after the suspension of sporting activities owing to covid 19. The lovely football family in UG, kindly accepts our appreciation of your wishes.”
