The annual Eldoret City marathon has been cancelled due to the coronavirus Pandemic.
Race director Moses Tanui said that the race, which was entering its third edition was initially postponed but due to the non-stop spread of the virus across the world, they decided to cancel the race.
“It is very sad to announce the cancellation of the race, the goose that lays golden eggs, not just in Eldoret and Kenya but in the entire continent,” said the two time Boston marathon champion.
Speaking on a tree planting session in Kapseret Forest, the former world 10,000m silver medalist said that the race is one of the most paying in the continent was set to receive top notch runners from across the world.
“We are the best paying marathon in the continent and we hope that come next year, it will be the best organised once,” added Tanui.
