President Uhuru Kenyatta today officially opened Nyayo stadium after three years when it was closed for renovation.
The head of state was joined by Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed and Principal Secretary Joe Okudo ahead of Kip Keino Classic next Saturday.
It was also good for the President who also flagged off dry run of the Kip Keino Classic where athletes competed in 200 metres, 400m, 800m and 1,500m.
The re-opening of the facility opens another chapter for sports in the country.
He said that upgrading of the facility is not an isolated case as the government is working round the clock to improve other facilities in Eldoret, Marsabit, Nyeri, Kirigiti in Kiambu, Wote Stadium in Makueni, amongst others.
Amina said that international sports bodies have been sending representatives to inspect the facility ahead of anticipated international sporting events.
