Football defending champions Kericho and Nandi for boys’ and girls’ respectively qualified to play into the Friday’s final matches in the ongoing Mau Region Primary Schools Sports Association at Wareng and Hill Schools’ ground, Eldoret.
In boys’ football, Baringo County will face off with defending champions Kericho County in the final football boys match.
Baringo registered a slim victory against Narok in an exciting semi final match played at Hill school before Kericho beat Nakuru in another semi final played at Wareng high school.
A solitary goal through a penalty kick by James Egis was enough to sent Baringo to the finals to be played on Saturday at Hill school.
The 50th minute penalty saved ‘desert boys’ who will be on the final play for the first time since counties came into force.
Narok’s defender Evra Peres handled the ball in the danger zone and centre referee pointed at the penalty with only 10min to the final in the 60 minutes match.
Egis stepped forward against Narok’s goalkeeper Boniface Kamau but a hard shot from Egis was too fast for Kamau who had his fingertips touch the ball, directing into the right corner of his net for a 1-0 score.
Kericho edged out Nakuru 2-1 in another controversial semi final at Wareng. Justice Kigen opened the score for the defending champion on the 22nd minute went into break with Baringo leading 1-0.
Eight minutes into the start of the second half, Rashid Adan equalized for Nakuru with a minute to the final whistle at 59th Hassan Sang sealed the victory for Kericho to face off with Baringo.
Both winners-Baringo and Kericho had topped pools B and A after scooping 7 and 9 points respectively.
Nandi County will be defending her football title after beating Baringo County by a solitary goal played at Hill School pitch. The second half lone goal from Purity Jerotich sent county to the final to face hosts Uasin Gishu county in the final match.
Hosts faced a tough Kericho side in the semi final match at Wareng high school ground. Ludwin Chepng’eno opened the score for Kericho before Uasin Gishu’s Maurine Jerotich levelized at 21st minute and the match went into extra time but the margin did not change until Uasin Gishu won through penalties for a 3-2 final score.
Kericho were on top of pool A after winning all their three matches while Nandi was also on top in pool B two wins and a draw.
Nandi County dominated volleyball for both boys and girls by qualifying to play into finals. Nandi boys beat Bomet three straight sets of 25-18, 25-6 and 25-11 to book a date with Uasin Gishu who dominated against Kericho with the similar score-3-0 (25-21, 25-19 and 25-10.
In girls, Nandi beat Bomet 3-0 (250187, 25-22 and 25-13) to face Uasin Gishu who were too good for Kericho in three straight sets of 25-9, 25-15 and 25-10. Both Uasin Gishu and Nandi topped pool A and B as Bomet and Kericho played second fiddle in pools A and B respectively.
Uasin Gishu will meet with Nandi in boys’ handball while Nakuru will meet with hosts in girls category.
Netball girls will be another titanic encounter when Nandi will face Elgeyo Marakwet as Nakuru will face Nandi in boys’ category.
