Registrar to issue 500certificates

SPORTS REGISTRAR ROSE WASIKE ADDRESSING MEDIA IN ELDORET

Registrar of Sports is set to issue five hundred certificates to all sports organization in the country following an order from Sports and Disputes Tribunal that all sports organization who have made an application before the registrar be given interim certificate on the basis of meeting the requirements.

Speaking in Eldoret while meeting heads of all sporting organizations in three Counties of North Rift- Nandi, Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet- registrar of Sports Rose Wasike said she has 500 certificates to be issued on interim basis following the order by the tribunal.

“After we are through with his sensitization programme in the region, I will be going to Nairobi to issue over 500 interim certificates to all sports organizations who had transited. As par now, I have fully registered sixteen sports organizations in the country,” said Wasike.

She added that she will be issuing interim certificates to all sports organizations that have made applications before her office.

“As I go back to Nairobi I will develop interim certificates to all organizations that have made applications before my office then after that, when the rules and regulations are out, I will start canceling all certificates to those who have not met the conditions,” said the lawyer.

But she raised a serious matter on some gaps in the Sports Act saying there are so many challenges especially in the Act that has not defined what is a sports organization in the country.

“Sports organizations have been there for long time up to now. But our own Sports Act does not explain what is a sports organization, which is a gap and according to me, a sports organization is that that has been registered under the Sports Act as required. And if you are not registered by registrar of sports, then you are not a sports organization same for those who have transited under section 50 and 49 of the Act. The law has no exception on any sports organization and if there is anything going around that we may lock other organizations from registration, that is wrong as the registrar has not been given any power to restrain any organization from registration by Sports Act,” lamented Wasike.

The first ever office bearer appealed to all sports organizations to follow law to the later especially the Kenya constitution

“I am appealing to all sports organizations to amend their constitution in-line with constitution of Kenya 2010 and Sports Kenya 2013 together with international sports discipline statutes. I want also to appeal with them to cooperate with our office to kick off in the right direction,” she appealed.

The Eldoret meeting was the first ever public sensitization of what Sports Act is and why it is important for all sports federations to be followed.

She admitted that the government did not have funds for sensitization in the country as the North Rift became the first stop for sensitization programme in the country and picking the region was due to its most glut talent of athletes and most sports events are concentrated in the three counties of Nandi, Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet and their next we’ll go to Trans Nzoia, West Pokot and Baringo as we wind up the North Rift programme,” she said.

“It is my responsibility to sensitize the public because I need to regulate sports organization in the country and I can to regulate organizations that are ignorant of Sports Act. we have to ensure that they understand the need of Sports Act in relation to sports organization. Initially the sports organizations were registered under societies which has changed. We want people to ensure that they understand Sports Act and its office, requirements and conditions,” said Wasike.
