Shakers Restaurant in Eldoret has become haven for athletics viewership from North Rift region.
Located within Central Business District, the restaurant has captured many athletes, athletic lovers and friends who join hand to cheer on their peers as they compete in international races on pay television sets.
Life has become easy for runners friends, who even if there is lack of electricity in town, the proprietor John Cheruiyot Gitari has installed generators to ensure that his trusted clients don’t miss any action.
Due to his preparedness, he harvests a lot when there are world marathons especially the top six one: Tokyo, Berlin, Chicago, Boston, New York and London marathons which are the world marathon majors with a handsome jackpot for runners with many points.
On Sunday evening, his joint was full as athletes led by two time Chicago marathon champion Rita Jeptoo among other athletes converged to watch Chicago marathon live from United States of America won by double world marathon champion Abel Kirui. Kirui also the 2012 olympic marathon silver medalist won against defending champion Dickson Chuma who finished second.
And world half marathon record holder Florence Kiplagat floored her competitors led double world marathon champion Ednah Kiplagat who defeated her at the April’s London marathon.
Florence led the podium finish for Kenyans Ednah and Valentine Kipketer. The Iten based runner cut the tape at (2:21.32) led Kenyans double world marathon champion Ednah (2:23.28) and Kipketer completed the Kenyan sweep in 2:23.41 while Kirui, who won his first majors marathon led compatriot Chumba timed 2:11.23 followed by his neighbor from Nandi County Chumba in 2:11.26 and Gideon Kipketer completed another Kenyan podium sweep in 2:12.20.
Gitari said he has to his best to please his customers, entertain and ensure consistence.
“We have to do our part. These are counties with best athletes in the whole world and if they can trust in what you do, make sure you do the best and that is what we are doing here. We receive various athletes in this place and we have to keep them to ensure that they don’t fail to watch whatever they want to see,” said Gitari.
